Process Automation Engineer / Technician

About the role

Meka Industrial Electronic Solution (MekaIES) is looking for a Process Automation Engineer / Technician in Cape Town, reporting to the Technical Manager. The role combines hands-on fault-finding with structured automation engineering, supporting industrial, commercial and renewable-energy clients through PLC, HMI/SCADA, instrumentation, networking, commissioning and maintenance work.

Key responsibilities

• Install, commission and maintain UPS systems (1 kVA to 500 kVA, transformerless and transformer-based)
• Develop and troubleshoot HMI/SCADA interfaces
• Diagnose and repair electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic automation systems
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance
• Calibrate sensors, instrumentation and control devices
• Support commissioning of new projects and upgrades
• Conduct root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement actions
• Document technical findings and compliance reports and ensure adherence to safety standards

Required profile

• National Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation or a closely related discipline
• At least 5 years' experience in process automation or industrial electronics
• Familiarity with renewable-energy systems is advantageous

Required skills

• PLC programming (ladder logic, structured text, function-block diagrams)
• HMI/SCADA (FactoryTalk, WinCC, Ignition, Wonderware)
• Industrial networking (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, OPC UA)
• Electrical troubleshooting, schematic interpretation, calibration and instrumentation
