Engineering Technician (Production) – Grade A

About the role

The South African Navy is seeking a permanent Engineering Technician (Production) – Grade A to join its Fleet Command Headquarters at Naval Engineering Services in Simon’s Town. The role supports the Navy’s engineering drawing office by delivering item specifications, technical investigations and information support for naval equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide item specification and drawing services for naval components.
• Conduct technical investigations related to item specifications.
• Deliver information‑support services to engineering teams.
• Compile and present technical reports in English.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and R&D units to ensure compliance with standards.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum three years post‑qualification technical experience.
• Current compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineering Technician.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Strong interpersonal and decision‑making abilities, capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines.

Required skills

• Proven experience in an engineering drawing office.
• Proficiency with computer‑aided design (CAD) software.
• Knowledge of engineering specifications, standards and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to compile and present technical reports in English.
