Engineering Manager – Hospital Facilities

About the role

The Engineering Manager will lead all asset care and maintenance activities for Life Cosmos Hospital in Mpumalanga. Reporting to the Hospital Manager, the role ensures reliable operation of buildings, plant, machinery, infrastructure, and sustainability initiatives within a defined budget.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day maintenance and respond to enquiries from doctors, patients and nursing staff.
• Manage the Operational Maintenance department, including call‑outs and standby duties.
• Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act No.85 of 1993 and related regulations.
• Recruit, assign, evaluate and develop engineering staff.
• Maintain and improve preventive maintenance programmes, job‑card and call‑out systems.
• Control service reporting, legal documentation and asset records.
• Identify and drive capital upgrades, energy‑saving and water‑control projects.
• Prepare reports, approve expenditures and negotiate with external contractors.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing engineering or facilities operations in a hospital or similar environment.
• Knowledge of South African OHS legislation (Act No.85 of 1993) and related regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, direct and evaluate technical staff.
• Experience handling budgets, capital projects and sustainability initiatives.
