Electrostatic Precipitator Technician (Sasolburg)

About the role

The Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) Technician is responsible for ensuring ESP equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in line with environmental regulations. You will work on industrial ESP systems, performing inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimisation.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine inspections, preventive and corrective maintenance on ESP systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical and control‑system faults, including high‑voltage transformers, rectifier sets, control panels, rappers, discharge electrodes, collecting plates and insulators.
• Perform alignment checks, replace worn components and conduct electrical testing using diagnostic equipment.
• Monitor and record operating parameters such as voltage, current, spark rates and power consumption, and analyse data to recommend corrective actions.
• Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, confined‑space regulations and other safety protocols.
• Complete maintenance records, inspection reports and work orders in the CMMS.
• Participate in root‑cause failure analysis and continuous‑improvement initiatives to enhance ESP performance and reduce downtime.

Required profile

• National Diploma, Trade Certificate or Technical Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Maintenance, Electromechanical Engineering or Industrial Maintenance.
• 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience, with at least 2 years working on electrostatic precipitators in sectors such as power generation, cement, mining, steel or pulp & paper.
• Proven experience with high‑voltage electrical systems.
