CAD & 3D Printing Technician (Plant Support)

About the role

Provide CAD design, 3D printing and rapid‑prototyping support across the plant by producing accurate engineering drawings, jigs, fixtures, tooling aids and functional prototypes, ensuring compliance with SANS standards and National Building Regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for jigs, fixtures, tooling, gauges and workstation aids, following GD&T and regulatory standards.
• Operate, calibrate and maintain plant 3D printers (FDM, SLA, SLS), select appropriate materials and settings, manage the print queue and ensure printer uptime and consumable control.
• Perform reverse engineering using 3D scanning or manual measurement to recreate CAD models of obsolete or undocumented parts.
• Validate printed parts on the production line, capture feedback, iterate designs and document changes for audit readiness.

Required profile

• Data‑driven decision making, bias to action and commitment to standardised, continuously improved work.
• Maintains an annual Individual Development Plan and completes at least 40 hours of learning per year.
• Proficient in professional‑level Excel (tables, pivot tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS), Power Query and basic VBA/macros.

Required skills

• CAD software (2D drafting, 3D modelling, GD&T).
• 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLA, SLS) and material selection.
• 3D scanning / reverse engineering.
• Structured problem‑solving methods (A3, 8D, Pareto, 5‑Why).
• Excel, Power Query, VBA/macros.
