Underground Mine Overseer Operations

About the role

The Mine Overseer Operations UG is responsible for managing underground mining sections, ensuring safe and efficient production while complying with legislative requirements. The role oversees project teams, coordinates maintenance, blasting and support activities, and drives continuous improvement across underground operations.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and implement improvement opportunities in underground operations projects.
• Supervise project teams to deliver objectives, manage schedules and communicate progress.
• Oversee ground control, strata control and secondary support installations, taking corrective actions when needed.
• Lead tramming activities, set targets and monitor performance of the tramming team.
• Manage secondary blasting processes, authorise blasts and control re‑entry to blasted sections.
• Coordinate underground maintenance, including equipment servicing and rock removal.
• Monitor seismic activity reports and gas testing procedures, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Maintain and update the mining component of the risk register and contribute to overall risk management.
• Analyse mining data, generate reports and provide problem‑solving support to operational teams.
• Plan and allocate resources – personnel, equipment and materials – to meet daily production targets.

Required profile

• Mine Overseer Certificate.
• At least 5 years experience as a Production Supervisor (minimum 2 years for graduates).
• Blasting Certificate.
• Valid driver’s licence (if applicable).
• NQF 4 National Senior Certificate or equivalent.
• Medical fitness for the specific business area and clear security screening record.
• Additional qualification: NQF 6 Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Mining Engineering or NQF 7 Degree in Mining Engineering.
