Electrical Maintenance Technician – Durban

About the role

The Electrical Maintenance Technician will ensure reliable operation of plant electrical systems in a heavy‑industry environment in Durban. You will be responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining and troubleshooting a wide range of equipment while adhering to EHS standards and continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to breakdowns of LV‑MV motors, LV switchboards, motor control centres (MCC), plant lighting, transformers, UPS, VFDs, breakers and soft starters.
• Carry out planned, preventive and predictive maintenance with minimal supervision.
• Diagnose faults, repair or replace components, re‑assemble and test equipment, and keep work areas clean.
• Use SAP to order spare parts and record all maintenance activities.
• Monitor recurring failures and recommend modifications to eliminate them.
• Provide technical guidance to junior electricians, trainees and contractors.
• Participate in 5S, Business Excellence and safety initiatives to improve plant performance.
• Assist other departments with equipment troubleshooting as required.

Required profile

• Diploma in a relevant electrical field and successful completion of PEC Craft Training.
• Minimum three years of electrical maintenance experience in a heavy‑industry setting.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Ability to work independently and follow safety procedures.
