Depot Controller

About the role

The Depot Controller oversees daily depot operations, ensuring efficient stock control, fleet coordination, and timely product movement. This role is pivotal in maintaining operational controls, minimizing risk, and supporting service delivery to customers within the FMCG sector.

Key responsibilities

• Achieve order fill rates and on‑time deliveries exceeding 100%.
• Optimize truck utilisation and ensure correct loading of orders, including PM deliveries when required.
• Receive and dispatch quality bread daily while keeping all costs within agreed targets.
• Manage product distribution, route viability, and distribution cost per loaf.
• Maintain fleet image and ensure stock levels are within model parameters, avoiding stock‑outs, write‑offs, and shrinkage.
• Submit daily administrative information accurately and meet all reporting deadlines.
• Zero weekly driver balances by Thursday and control all statistical data for correctness and timely submission.
• Monitor depot statistics, take corrective actions, and liaise regularly with the Distribution Manager.
• Communicate results and objectives to staff, resolve issues, and conduct staff appraisals and objective setting.
• Handle conflict management, conduct walk‑about management, instil an action‑oriented ethos, and mentor all team members.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience as a Depot Controller or in a similar logistics role.
• At least Grade 12 education; a diploma or degree is preferred.
• Minimum 3 years sales experience within the FMCG industry.
• Eligibility for employment equity considerations as outlined by Tiger Brands.
