Data Science Learnership – 24‑Month Programme

About the role

Standard Bank offers a 24‑month Data Science Learnership designed to give young South Africans practical experience in data‑driven audit work. Participants will work alongside senior analysts, applying data science techniques to support internal audit objectives while receiving formal training.

Key responsibilities

• Support senior team members in defining small, well‑scoped data analysis tasks aligned to audit objectives.
• Execute predefined analytical procedures to test specific audit areas using data, such as identifying anomalies and validating controls.
• Identify and highlight key findings, including control gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost reduction.
• Develop and communicate simple, evidence‑based recommendations grounded in data analysis.
• Organise and maintain datasets, code, and visual outputs in a structured, reproducible manner.
• Ensure adherence to group standards, policies, and data‑governance requirements.
• Prioritise tasks and manage time effectively to meet deliverables and deadlines.

Required profile

• Undergraduate qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Quantitative Analysis, Engineering or a related discipline.
• South African citizen, under 30 years of age, fluent in English (read, write, speak).
• Not currently enrolled in any other learnership, internship, or academic programme.
