Construction Supervisor - Generator Enclosures & Structural Steel

About the role

A 12-18 month contract position in Johannesburg for a Construction Supervisor overseeing generator enclosure assembly, structural steel fabrication and related installation. The supervisor coordinates site and workshop operations, leads multidisciplinary teams and ensures work meets project specifications and schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise generator enclosure assembly (acoustic panels, ventilation, access doors, structural framework) and structural steel fabrication, fit-up, bolting, welding and assembly
• Interpret GA, fabrication, structural, lifting and assembly drawings and coordinate technical clarifications with engineering
• Carry out dimensional checks, monitor workmanship and enforce Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
• Enforce health, safety and environmental compliance, conduct toolbox talks and identify hazards
• Supervise artisans, welders, boilermakers, fitters, electricians and general assistants, allocate daily tasks and monitor productivity
• Plan daily and weekly work, track progress against schedules and report to project management
• Monitor welding and fabrication, review lifting drawings and rigging requirements, and coordinate material availability and dispatch
• Maintain daily reports, inspection records, NCRs and punch lists

Required profile

• Engineering qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• 5-10 years of experience in industrial construction, with a proven supervisory track record
• Practical experience in generator enclosure assembly, structural steel fabrication and generator installation, testing and commissioning
• Leadership ability and experience in workforce supervision and production planning
