Cloud Engineer – Azure Data Platform Specialist

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Engineer to design, build, and optimise enterprise‑scale cloud data platforms and pipelines. You will create secure, scalable, high‑performance solutions that power analytics, reporting, machine learning and real‑time business insights.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable cloud‑based data pipelines for structured, semi‑structured and unstructured data.
• Build and optimise ETL/ELT solutions using Azure technologies and modern data‑engineering tools.
• Develop batch and real‑time processing with Python, Spark, Databricks and Microsoft Fabric.
• Implement automation, monitoring, testing and DataOps best practices.
• Design and support Azure infrastructure (Fabric, Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks) and implement IaC and CI/CD pipelines.
• Monitor platform performance, reliability, scalability and cost, supporting hybrid cloud environments.
• Ensure data quality, lineage, metadata management and enforce governance and security controls (POPIA compliance).
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, BI developers, data scientists and business stakeholders in Agile ceremonies.
• Provide Level 2/Level 3 production support and mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of Cloud or Data Engineering experience, preferably in financial services or banking.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure cloud technologies and enterprise‑scale data platforms.
• Microsoft Azure certifications preferred; Fabric, Databricks or Azure Data Engineer certifications advantageous.
