Buyer II – Advanced Buying Role in Fashion Retail

About the role

The Buyer II will lead the execution of buying plans for assigned fashion categories, negotiating with suppliers and adapting strategies based on market trends. This role works closely with planners and the broader buying team to ensure product assortments meet the brand’s objectives and the South African Gen‑Z customer’s expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Source, develop, procure and select merchandise aligned with company strategy and customer needs.
• Analyse sales history, market trends and brand initiatives to shape buying plans.
• Negotiate prices, terms and contracts to exceed business KPIs.
• Manage supplier relationships, resolve complex issues and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
• Monitor market trends, translate global influences (TikTok, streetwear, music) into product DNA and localise them for the SA market.
• Collaborate with planning, merchandising and other functions to align on strategy and execution.
• Participate in local and international buying trips as required.

Required profile

• Diploma, graduate or postgraduate degree.
• Minimum 4 years experience as a buyer in clothing retail.
• Strong understanding of the clothing retail cycle and quick‑response model.
• Proven negotiation and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently, solve complex problems and communicate confidently at all levels.
