Boiler Assistant

About the role

The Boiler Assistant will support safe operation and basic maintenance of Nestlé's boiler systems at the Mossel Bay plant. The role involves daily monitoring, water‑treatment testing, coal and ash handling, and ensuring steam production meets factory demand while complying with safety and statutory regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Attend shift hand‑over meetings and check boiler water levels.
• Monitor and clear ash chutes, perform water‑treatment analysis, and clean air, HFO and combustion filters.
• De‑ash boilers, monitor coal levels, and clean silo rooms.
• Conduct soot‑blowing of air‑heater elements and record daily water usage.
• Maintain cleanliness of boiler house, compressor room, HFO room, ammonia plant, fire‑pump house and related areas.
• Support statutory boiler inspections in line with Pressure Equipment Regulations.
• Assist with basic operation and maintenance of ammonia refrigeration, water‑treatment, compressed‑air and hot‑air generation plants.
• Follow Nestlé Life‑Saving Rules, including lockout/tagout, confined‑space entry, fall protection and high‑hazard permits.

Required profile

• Matriculation with mathematics and science.
• Minimum one year of technical experience in boiler operation and utilities/service maintenance.
• Ability to work in a shift environment and follow strict safety procedures.
