Barista – Coffee Specialist

About the role

Cartel Coffee is looking for an enthusiastic Barista to join its vibrant coffee bar located in the Octotel offices at Northgate Office Park, Brooklyn, Cape Town. The role is full‑time, Monday to Friday, 7 am‑4 pm, and focuses on delivering high‑quality coffee and a welcoming experience for customers.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve espresso‑based drinks, lattes, cappuccinos, smoothies and other specialty beverages.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the coffee bar, equipment and preparation areas.
• Monitor stock levels, conduct stock takes and assist with ordering supplies.
• Greet customers, take orders, handle cash and card transactions accurately.
• Operate and perform routine maintenance on coffee machines and related equipment.
• Assist with light food preparation, such as serving pastries.
• Collaborate with team members to create a friendly atmosphere and address any operational issues.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of barista experience.
• Matric (Grade 12) certificate preferred.
• Passion for coffee and excellent customer service.
• Outgoing personality with strong communication skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment and multitask.
• Physically fit to stand for extended periods.

Required skills

• Proficiency in operating espresso machines and coffee brewing equipment.
• Basic cash handling and point‑of‑sale system use.
