Audit Committee Member – Department of Military Veterans

About the role

The Department of Military Veterans is seeking three qualified professionals to serve on its Audit Committee for a three‑year term. Members will provide independent oversight and strategic advice on financial governance, risk management and internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advice to the Executive Authority and Accounting Officer on internal audit, risk management, accounting policies, legal and ICT matters.
• Review the annual financial statements and assess the department’s financial position, compliance and performance.
• Respond to issues raised by the Auditor‑General and conduct investigations into the department’s financial affairs as required.
• Contribute to the development and monitoring of internal controls, governance frameworks and risk management processes.
• Perform any other functions prescribed for the audit committee.

Required profile

• At least 10 years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial management, legal, ICT or monitoring and evaluation.
• Relevant three‑ or four‑year degree and a postgraduate qualification in a related field.
• Membership of a recognised professional body.
• Demonstrated experience serving on boards of directors or similar committees.
• Strong knowledge of corporate governance principles and public‑sector financial reporting frameworks (PFMA, GRAP, GAAP, Treasury Regulations).

What we offer

• Daily remuneration of R2 619 for preparation and meeting days.
• Total compensation of R7 857 per appointment (three days of work).
