Assistant Pneumatic Technician

About the role

White Horse Carriers, a road haulage company of Africa Global Logistics (MSC Group) with over 50 years of experience and a fleet of more than 520 vehicles, is looking for an Assistant Pneumatic Technician for its Brentwood, Johannesburg workshop. The post supports the Senior Diesel Mechanic in diagnosing, repairing and maintaining pneumatic systems on the company's trucks and trailers, following workshop SOPs under supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in diagnosing pneumatic issues such as air brakes, suspension and other air-operated components, using diagnostic tools under guidance.
• Support repairs and maintenance of air valves, compressors, air lines and brake chambers.
• Perform routine inspections for leaks, pressure levels and component wear.
• Maintain trailer pneumatic systems, including air brake systems and load-supporting air components.
• Follow instructions and workshop SOPs, keep the work area clean and document work and service records.
• Follow jobcard processes, stores and parts-handling procedures, and liaise with the Senior Tyre Technician.
• Keep workspaces safe and clean, monitor work quality and use tools correctly.

Required profile

• Basic experience or training in pneumatic systems or automotive repair, preferably with heavy-duty vehicles; entry-level or apprentice experience acceptable.
• Matric certificate (Grade 10 or higher) or equivalent; technical training (N1-N3 automotive mechanics or similar) is a plus.
• Ability to follow technical instructions, interpret pneumatic schematics with guidance, and work safely in a workshop.
• Valid driver's licence (Code 14 preferred but not mandatory).
• Full-time position in the workshop, with occasional on-road assistance; overtime or weekend work may be required.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of pneumatic systems, air brakes, compressors and air-operated components.
• Familiarity with pneumatic diagnostic tools, with willingness to develop proficiency under supervision.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
