Account Manager - End User (Water, Wastewater, Power & Utilities)

About the role

Rockwell Automation is hiring an Account Manager for its Water, Wastewater, Power and Utilities customers in South Africa. This is a sales position reporting to a Sales Manager, aimed at an early-career technical professional who wants to grow into a successful Account Manager. You will help develop and execute strategic growth plans, grow sales, build customer relationships and take ownership of an assigned portfolio of accounts.

Key responsibilities

• Sell the Connected Enterprise portfolio (industrial automation, control systems, variable speed drives, industrial networks, digital solutions, OT cybersecurity and Lifecycle Services).
• Build knowledge of the Water, Wastewater, Power and Utilities sectors, including customer operations, installed base, priorities, planned projects and industry challenges.
• Take progressive responsibility for a portfolio of development and all customers, and build lasting customer relationships.
• Maintain clean CRM records of sales outreach and contacts across engineers, maintenance teams, operations, site managers, project managers, procurement and senior decision-makers.
• Conduct regular customer and site visits to understand processes, applications, operational challenges and future investment needs.
• Identify and qualify new opportunities and build a sustainable pipeline, then support and lead opportunities through solution development, quotation/proposal, negotiation, delivery and follow-up.
• Work with technical consultants, product specialists, Lifecycle Services, Information Solutions and delivery teams, and collaborate with distributors, system integrators, OEMs, EPCs and consulting engineers.
• Help develop account plans, partner maps and growth strategies, and keep accurate customer, opportunity, pipeline and forecast data in the CRM.
• Develop technical and commercial competence, and follow up on customer and internal commitments.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Diploma in a technical field, or an Advanced Diploma, BEngTech, BEng or BSc in a relevant discipline such as Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, Control & Automation, Mechanical or Chemical/Process Engineering.
• Approximately 3 years of relevant experience in an engineering, technical, project, service, application, sales or customer-facing environment.
• Experience communicating with technical and business stakeholders (engineers, site managers, operations managers, procurement, etc.).
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to customer and project sites within South Africa; legal authorization to work in South Africa.
• Advantageous: experience in water, wastewater, power or utilities, and experience in long sales cycles and changing priorities.

Preferred skills

• Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA, control systems, variable speed drives, MCCs, industrial networks, instrumentation or process automation.
• Exposure to Rockwell Automation technologies or other industrial automation platforms.
• Experience with RFQs, tenders, quotations, engineering specifications or project proposals.
• Basic commercial awareness (quotations, pipelines, forecasting, margins, sales cycle) and CRM or sales opportunity management systems.
