Chief Financial Officer – Senior Municipal Finance Role

About the role

The municipality is seeking a qualified Chief Financial Officer to lead its financial management, report directly to the Municipal Manager and ensure sound financial governance. This is a permanent, senior‑level position based at the head office in Sasolburg.

Key responsibilities

• Perform delegations in line with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and other duties assigned by the Accounting Officer.
• Manage and control all financial functions of the municipality, including budgeting, cash and debt management, financial reporting and supply‑chain finance.
• Assist the Accounting Officer with bank account administration and the preparation and implementation of the municipal budget.
• Advise senior managers and officials on the exercise of powers under Sections 78 and 79 of the MFMA.
• Develop a medium‑term financial framework and ensure effective financial accountability across the municipality.

Required profile

• South African citizenship or permanent residence and a clean criminal record.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Recognised bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent, or Chartered Accountant (SA) qualification.
• Minimum seven years of relevant experience, with at least two years at senior management level.
• Knowledge of strategic and operational financial management, supply‑chain management, audit, and local government legislation.

Required skills

• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

What we offer

• Permanent contract with a total remuneration package ranging from R1 103 033 (minimum) to R1 492 337 (maximum) per annum, plus a 4 % remote allowance.
