Senior Lecturer – School of Nursing

About the role

The University of the Western Cape’s School of Nursing is seeking a Senior Lecturer to join its faculty on a permanent, full‑time basis. The position combines teaching, research, and community engagement within a joint establishment with the Provincial Health Department.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate nursing courses, including diploma programmes.
• Supervise Masters‑level research projects, particularly for candidates holding a PhD.
• Participate in and lead research programmes, contributing to peer‑reviewed publications and grant applications.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with industry, academic institutions, and health services.
• Engage in community outreach and service delivery as part of the joint agreement with the Department of Health.
• Perform administrative duties within the department and faculty.

Required profile

• PhD or Master’s degree in Nursing or a related health discipline.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse, Midwife, Community Health Nurse, Psychiatric Nurse, and as a Nurse Educator, Assessor and Moderator.
• 3–5 years of experience in undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching.
• At least four peer‑reviewed or accredited research outputs.
• Experience supervising a minimum of two Masters or six Honours students.
• Evidence of research activity such as grant funding or participation in collaborative projects.
• Active involvement in community engagement and institutional service.
