Senior Lecturer – Chemistry (Molecular Modelling)

About the role

North-West University seeks a Senior Lecturer to join its School of Physical and Chemical Sciences. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and honours courses in Physical and Inorganic Chemistry as well as Molecular Modelling, and will lead research within the Molecular Modelling Research Group.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and tutorials for Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Molecular Modelling modules.
• Supervise Master’s and PhD students in the Molecular Modelling Research Group.
• Develop and maintain research projects, including the RFA for Chemical Resource Beneficiation.
• Engage with academic and social communities through service and outreach activities.
• Participate in departmental and faculty committees and administrative tasks.

Required profile

• PhD (NQF Level 10) in Molecular Modelling within Physical or Inorganic Chemistry.
• At least one year of teaching experience in Molecular Modelling, Physical or Inorganic Chemistry.
• Demonstrated research record with peer‑reviewed publications and postgraduate supervision experience.
• National and international collaborative experience.

Required skills

• Expertise in molecular dynamics and solid‑state DFT for heterogeneous and homogeneous systems.
• Proficiency with GROMACS, Spartan, VASP, Quantum ESPRESSO and/or Materials Studio.
• Basic programming in Python and Linux shell scripting.
• Experience setting up and administering computing clusters.
• Strong command of MS Office Suite (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for teaching and research.
