Senior Lecturer – Statistics (Full‑time)

About the role

The University of the Western Cape’s Department of Statistics and Population Studies is seeking a Senior Lecturer to join its faculty on the Main Campus in Bellville. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and community engagement in statistics.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and develop undergraduate and postgraduate courses in statistics.
• Conduct high‑quality research and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Supervise master’s and doctoral students.
• Provide academic leadership within the department.
• Design curricula, assessments and contribute to programme accreditation.
• Engage with industry and community partners through outreach activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Mathematical Statistics.
• Proven teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in statistics.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications in statistics or applied statistics.
• Successful supervision of postgraduate (preferably master’s) students.
• Demonstrated ability to apply advanced statistical and data‑science techniques.

Required skills

• Proficiency in statistical software packages such as SAS, R and Python.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
• Ability to work adaptively in a diverse academic environment.
