Senior Back-End Java Developer – Scalable Systems

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Back-End Java Developer to join a technology‑focused organisation in Johannesburg. You will be responsible for building and maintaining high‑performance, scalable backend services that power mission‑critical web and mobile applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and services.
• Build and support APIs and core business functionality that drive system performance.
• Develop integration solutions that connect various platforms, systems, and technologies.
• Monitor, optimise, and improve application performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Support and maintain cloud‑hosted infrastructure, databases, and application services.
• Collaborate with development, testing, and support teams to resolve technical challenges.
• Maintain and enhance CI/CD processes to improve deployment efficiency.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of new products, features, and platform capabilities.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field (advantageous).
• Minimum of 5 years’ professional software development experience.
• Proven track record of developing and maintaining enterprise‑grade backend systems.
• Experience working in cloud‑based and agile development environments.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a focus on performance optimisation.
