Production Manager / Assistant Merchandise Manager – Johannesburg

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Production Manager/Assistant Merchandise Manager to join a dynamic apparel business in Johannesburg. The role oversees both local and imported clothing production across multiple categories.

Key responsibilities

• Manage local and import clothing production across multiple product categories.
• Drive critical path timelines from development through to delivery.
• Co‑ordinate fabric, trims and raw material procurement.
• Oversee product development from concept to production.
• Manage supplier communication, quality assurance and sampling.
• Co‑ordinate shipping schedules and freight forwarders.
• Negotiate pricing and ensure profitability targets are achieved.
• Build strong relationships with buyers, designers, suppliers and factories.

Required profile

• Related degree or diploma.
• 5+ years experience in clothing manufacturing or imports environment.
• Strong leadership and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent planning, organisational and communication abilities.
• Proven supplier negotiation and relationship management experience.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.
• Experience in denim, bottoms or apparel manufacturing is advantageous.
