Nurse Lead – Temporary (5 positions) – Johannesburg

About the role

The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is seeking five temporary Nurse Leads to oversee the Gophelega programme across designated health clusters in Ekurhuleni. The role combines clinical care for HIV/TB patients with programme implementation, quality improvement and data reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Lead implementation of the Gophelega programme in assigned local health areas, ensuring targets are met.
• Monitor and track facility performance, conduct clinical audits, and develop remedial action plans.
• Support quality‑improvement projects, align activities with Department of Health mandates, and report accurate data.
• Provide direct clinical care: examine and treat HIV‑infected patients, manage opportunistic infections, prescribe ART and prophylaxis, and handle ART failure cases.
• Assist counsellors with adherence support, facilitate referrals, and develop SOPs to improve operational efficiency.
• Register and follow up decanted patients, and implement prevention activities such as HIV testing for TB patients, condom distribution, male circumcision, and PMTCT services.

Required profile

• Qualified Nurse with experience in HIV and TB care.
• Ability to lead programme implementation and oversee multiple facilities.
• Strong analytical skills for monitoring performance and conducting audits.
• Familiarity with Department of Health guidelines and reporting requirements.
