Health and Safety Officer

About the role

We have a vacancy for a Health and Safety Officer, based in Cape Town. The role is responsible for communicating health and safety values to contractors and staff, ensuring compliance with standards across facilities management and construction services.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate and coordinate health and safety information on site and attend client meetings.
• Conduct risk assessments, develop safe work procedures and investigate health and safety complaints and incidents.
• Manage work orders through the computer‑aided facilities management system (CAFMS) and produce OHS monthly reports.
• Ensure contractors and employees comply with legislation, conduct quarterly audits and emergency evacuation drills.
• Maintain safety documentation, permits, compliance certificates and oversee hazardous material handling.

Required profile

• Grade 12 with a minimum of 5 years OHS experience in the built environment.
• Registered with statutory bodies (SAIOSH and/or SACPCMP) and hold SAMTRAC or equivalent certification.
• Valid Code 8 driver’s licence, clean infringement record and own reliable transport.

Required skills

• Risk assessment and incident investigation certification.
• Fall protection planning certification.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 management system and OHS administration processes.
• Proficiency with CAFMS (computer‑aided facilities management system).
