Financial Controller – South Africa

About the role

The Financial Controller will lead financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, and statutory compliance for our South African legal entity. You will ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information in line with IFRS and group policies, supporting strategic decision‑making across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Own the general ledger and statutory accounts, delivering monthly, quarterly and annual closes with balance‑sheet reconciliations, provisions, accruals and inventory valuation.
• Prepare annual financial statements for audit and statutory submission; act as primary finance contact for external auditors, regulators and internal audit teams.
• Manage end‑to‑end South African tax compliance (Income Tax, VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL) and collaborate with Group Tax and external advisors on planning and disputes.
• Develop and maintain a robust internal control environment, ensuring compliance with tax laws, labour regulations and company policies.
• Provide financial insights and operational support to management, oversee accounts payable/receivable and drive process improvements.
• Lead, mentor and develop finance team members while acting as a business partner to operational and commercial teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; professional qualification such as CA(SA), CIMA or ACCA strongly preferred.
• 3–5+ years of experience in financial management, accounting or controlling, with proven exposure to reporting, audits, statutory compliance and tax submissions.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS reporting standards and South African tax legislation (VAT, Income Tax, PAYE, UIF, SDL).
• Demonstrated experience interacting with SARS or other tax authorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SAP or a comparable ERP system.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Solid understanding of IFRS and South African tax regulations.
