Vessel Planner - AGL Terminals

About the role

AGL South Africa, part of Africa Global Logistics, is looking for a Vessel Planner for its terminals in Cape Town. The role is permanent and full time, and the planner takes ownership of the vessels under their control, supports planning when disturbances occur, and ensures efficient, safe loading and discharge. The aim is to support a 37 GMPH per quay crane operation while meeting all contract BMPH targets.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and execute vessel discharge and load plans, and manage the execution of the vessel operation plan so the vessel file is closed within two hours of completion.
• File and keep planning papers according to SOPs, and make sure all vessels receive paperwork in a timely way.
• Meet the vessel on arrival to finalise loading documents and the quay crane working sequence, and ensure final departure paperwork is delivered promptly.
• Check that the intended discharge and load plan meets vessel stability and safety criteria.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies, Business Administration or a related field.
• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in vessel planning, port operations or maritime logistics.
• Experience in containerized shipping, vessel scheduling or terminal operations is highly preferred.
• Ability to work in a shift system covering day, night, weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of container vessel stowage and stability criteria.
• Familiarity with vessel planning software (e.g. Trimble, Navis or similar) and port management systems.
• Good reporting and registration capability.
• Understanding of maritime regulations, loading/unloading processes and cargo stowage planning.
