Cargo Control Supervisor

About the role

Africa Global Logistics South Africa (AGL) is hiring a permanent, full-time Cargo Control Supervisor in Cape Town. The supervisor oversees the entire cargo control process as defined in the Cargo Control Standard Operating Procedures, manages direct reports and acts as the link between shipping lines and vessel planners.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor vessel schedules daily, prioritize work and assign tasks to the cargo control coordinator
• Screen incoming e-mails and respond immediately to urgent queries
• Follow up with cargo control clerks so load-lists are finalised 8 hours before the vessel's ETA and clarify issues with shipping lines to avoid disputes
• Maintain the To Come List for pre-approved late arrivals, granted connections and exceptions
• Ensure Customs requirements are met and investigate and document service failures
• Report terminal and shipping line performance against the terms of service agreement and run periodic performance reviews with direct reports
• Deliver terminal prebilling information and reports, and prepare the prebilling file for each vessel call
• Update operating and reporting systems with error-free information for every vessel and deliver the Grated Connection Matrix to stakeholders

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management or a related field is preferred
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cargo handling, logistics or warehouse operations
• Previous supervisory or team lead experience highly preferred
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Ability to work independently and diplomatically
