Utilities Operator – Plant Maintenance & Support

About the role

The Utilities Operator provides technical support to the Manufacturing division by operating, maintaining and troubleshooting plant utilities equipment. This role ensures reliable operation of boilers, compressors, dryers, condensers, chillers, water treatment and backup power systems to meet production requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily logging, meter reading, inspections and preventive maintenance tasks such as filter replacements, oil changes, lubrication and housekeeping.
• Diagnose and execute complex repairs on utilities equipment including boilers, compressors, dryers, evaporative condensers and chillers.
• Start and operate boilers at correct pressure, monitor water treatment parameters and ensure TDS levels remain within specifications.
• Operate backup power and compressed air systems according to business and emergency needs.
• Maintain accurate documentation, hourly boiler readings and weekly/monthly reports on work performed, spares used and resources employed.
• Reference equipment drawings, engineering standards and GMPs when completing and closing jobs.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 education with N3 mechanical/electrical engineering qualification.
• At least 5 years of maintenance experience in an FMCG or similar manufacturing environment.
• Boiler operation certificate.
• Self‑starter with strong analytical abilities and above‑average endurance for long shifts and physical tasks.
