Unit Manager (Theatre)

About the role

Medicare Private Hospital is looking for a Unit Manager (Theatre) to join its Nursing Services team. The post reports to the Nursing Services Manager and is based in Rustenburg, North West. The successful candidate ensures and monitors quality nursing care and coordinates the multidisciplinary team in the theatre unit.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and monitor nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes, and provide cost-effective patient care in line with clinical governance.
• Ensure infection prevention and international standard precautions are followed, and implement quality initiatives.
• Communicate clearly with patients about their care and act as a clinical expert in achieving patient outcomes.
• Ensure the competence of staff and students, set criteria for professional socialisation, foster a learning environment and give feedback to stakeholders.
• Promote customer satisfaction, handle complaints, run quality care rounds and clinical practice audits, and report findings.
• Identify clinical and safety risks and trends, implement corrective action and monitor them continuously.
• Drive unit-specific best practice, support wider implementation and take part in hospital marketing initiatives.
• Train staff on equipment operation and work with stakeholders to keep equipment in working order.
• Build productive relationships with doctors through a shared professional code of conduct and effective communication.

Required profile

• A relevant nursing qualification (BCom degree or equivalent) or a relevant management qualification.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse.
• Post-Basic Diploma in Operating Theatre.
• 5 to 8 years' experience as Unit Manager.
