Unit Manager – Surgical Ward

About the role

The Unit Manager will lead the Surgical Ward at Waterfall City Hospital, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, safe nursing care. Reporting to senior clinical leadership, the role focuses on compliance with professional standards, ethical practice, and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor nursing care to meet quality and safety standards.
• Lead a multidisciplinary quality‑assurance team to implement best practices.
• Manage staffing acuities, skill mix, and cost‑effective resource allocation.
• Oversee billing, stock management, purchasing, and asset registers.
• Identify and drive quality‑improvement initiatives and risk‑management actions.
• Investigate incidents, ensure accurate reporting, and maintain compliance with relevant legislation.
• Mentor, train, and develop nursing staff to build capacity and professional growth.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive experience in surgical or acute care settings.
• Proven leadership experience managing a nursing unit or similar team.
• Strong understanding of clinical governance, financial management, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of nursing standards, professional ethics, and patient safety protocols.
• Experience with budgeting, cost control, and resource planning.
