Unit Manager – Medical Ward 3

About the role

Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre is recruiting a Unit Manager for Medical Ward 3. The Unit Manager ensures that quality nursing care and service delivery are implemented and practised within a multi-disciplinary team, and is accountable for coordinating capacity building, mentoring, coaching, training and development in the unit.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the unit provides safe, cost-effective quality patient care in line with the hospital's clinical governance strategy and evidence-based practice
• Evaluate the patient journey through patient experience and stakeholder feedback
• Evaluate and monitor nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes
• Communicate effectively with patients about their care
• Promote the health and wellbeing of patients and employees
• Ensure infection prevention and international standard precautions are followed
• Implement group quality initiatives
• Liaise with public liability regarding incidents of potential risk to the business

Required profile

• A relevant nursing qualification (B.Cur. degree) or a relevant management qualification
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
• Compliance with the SANC code for registered nurses and applicable healthcare legislation
• 3-5 years of unit management experience in a medical or surgical ward (essential)
• Oncology experience is advantageous

Required skills

• Compulsory BLS certification
• Advanced computer literacy
