Underground Miner – Training & Blasting Specialist

About the role

The company is seeking an experienced underground miner to lead a gang of trainees and instructors in a designated section of the mine. The role focuses on safe blasting, rock breaking, and supporting underground operations while complying with the Mine Health and Safety Act.

Key responsibilities

• Read and interpret the business plan and allocate resources to meet production and training targets.
• Supervise crew responsible for installation, maintenance, and support of underground structures.
• Mark, drill, and charge shot and pilot holes for primary and secondary blasting.
• Store, issue, and safely destroy explosives and accessories.
• Provide ground support using anchors, elongated support units, and packs.
• Transport material and equipment via mono‑rope system.
• Lead the team, plan work allocation, and assess performance.
• Ensure compliance with ISO and SETA requirements and monitor HRD systems.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (or Std 10) qualification.
• Permanent Blasting Certificate and Level 3 Rock Breaker qualification.
• Competent A & B certification.
• At least 12 months experience as a Panel Leader (internal) and 2–3 years as a Conventional/Trackless Miner (external).
• Valid medical certificate or fitness to obtain one.
• Basic firefighting and first‑aid skills.
