Transaction Monitoring Analyst

About the role

Mukuru, a fintech focused on safe, affordable and accessible financial services across Africa, is looking for a Transaction Monitoring Analyst (TMA) to join its Financial Crime team. The TMA investigates unusual transaction activity, identifies emerging threats and helps keep AML/CFT controls effective and compliant.

Key responsibilities

• Review and investigate transaction monitoring alerts, analysing customer behaviour, transactional activity and risk indicators.
• Identify potential money laundering, terrorist financing, mule activity, structuring and other suspicious activity, and write clear investigation findings and recommendations.
• Escalate high-risk or suspicious activity when required and support enhanced due diligence investigations.
• Identify emerging financial crime trends and control weaknesses, and help strengthen risk management processes.
• Conduct audits and quality reviews, compile transaction monitoring statistics and corridor reports, and share trends and patterns with stakeholders.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of investigation quality and efficiency, and partner with colleagues across Financial Crime and internal teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a Money Service Business (MSB) or similar financial services environment.
• Experience in AML, financial crime compliance, transaction monitoring or a related field, including investigating potentially suspicious financial activity and analysing transactional and customer data.
• Advantageous: qualification in Finance, Law, Compliance, Risk Management, Criminology or a related field; AML/CFT certification such as ACAMS.

Required skills

• Understanding of AML/CFT principles and financial crime risks.
• Knowledge of the FIC Act and relevant South African regulatory requirements.
• Understanding of CDD, EDD, suspicious transaction reporting and transaction monitoring practices.
• Knowledge of remittance and money transfer processes.
