Toolmaker

About the role

The Toolmaker will work closely with production to ensure the safety, integrity and efficiency of equipment, plant and personnel. Based in the tool room – the nerve centre of manufacturing – the role is critical for maintaining tool availability, precision and overall production uptime.

Key responsibilities

• Produce machine parts using lathes, milling machines, jig‑boring machines and grinding machines according to drawings or samples.
• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
• Maintain a clean and safe production area, record unsafe conditions promptly and apply the 20 key safety principles.
• Comply with environmental regulations and quality standards (IATF 16949, VDA6, ISO 9002, QS 9000).
• Standardise processes, document work, and ensure timely delivery of jobs while managing costs.
• Generate ideas and implement improvement initiatives for tool and fixture management.

Required profile

• Completed Grade 12/Matric or NQF Level 4.
• Trade Test qualification as Tool, Jig & Die Maker or Turner Machinist.
• At least 5 years of experience in metal‑working within a manufacturing or foundry environment.
