About the role
The Technician In Training (TIT) programme offers an entry‑level, hands‑on engineering position where you will develop specialist expertise in either Mechanical Engineering or Control & Instrumentation. You will work directly on specialised plant equipment, diagnose faults, perform repairs and grow into a recognised technical specialist within Central Engineering.
Key responsibilities
- Complete all assessments, projects and training interventions within the TIT development programme.
- Analyse equipment performance trends to spot deteriorating conditions and emerging faults.
- Conduct hands‑on fault‑finding, strip‑down, inspection, repair, component replacement, testing and recommissioning of specialised plant equipment.
- Develop deep knowledge in either mechanical systems (levellers, slitters, mandrels, uncoilers, coilers, hydraulic systems) or control & instrumentation systems (gauges, strip‑centring equipment).
- Support artisans and maintenance teams with technical troubleshooting and diagnostic assistance.
- Participate in planned and breakdown maintenance activities on assigned equipment.
- Apply Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to investigate recurring failures and propose sustainable solutions.
- Document repair actions, findings and improvement recommendations while maintaining accurate technical records.
- Contribute to equipment reliability, continuous improvement and preventative maintenance initiatives.
Required profile
- Entry‑level candidate with a strong interest in hands‑on engineering.
- Willingness to learn and develop specialist expertise in a chosen technical stream.
- Ability to work safely and follow Quality Management System and Occupational Health & Safety requirements.
- Strong analytical mindset for equipment performance analysis and fault diagnosis.
Required skills
- Mechanical equipment knowledge (levellers, slitters, mandrels, uncoilers, coilers, hydraulic systems).
- Control & instrumentation knowledge (specialised instrumentation, gauges, strip‑centring equipment).
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology.
