Production Shift Supervisor

About the role

The Production Shift Supervisor will lead the baking business unit at RCL Foods in Pietermaritzburg. Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the role ensures that products are manufactured correctly, cost‑effectively, on time, and to the highest quality standards while maximising plant efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Start each shift by verifying work orders, machinery cleanliness, and pre‑run checks.
• Validate staffing levels and create the production plan with team leaders.
• Conduct regular staff meetings, maintain meeting registers, and coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Monitor stock issuance, sample finished products for quality, and enforce corrective actions.
• Ensure temperature checks every 60 minutes and that all departments follow their processes.
• Perform hourly quality checks, validate yield standards, and compile production documentation.
• Report shift performance hourly and address any deviations from targets.

Required profile

• Matric or equivalent (NQF4) and SA Chamber of Baking Certificate.
• At least 3 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing.
• Minimum 2 years in perishable food or FMCG production.
• Strong operational decision‑making, planning, and leadership abilities.

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of ERP systems.
• Full understanding of Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) systems.
• Good computer literacy, especially Microsoft Excel.
