Technical Support Specialist (Linux)

About the role

A client of Parvana, which offers financial service solutions to help its clients achieve their goals, is hiring a Technical Support Specialist (Linux) based in Johannesburg. The role is office-based and involves installing, configuring, maintaining and administering Linux servers, monitoring them and handling incidents and service requests.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain and administer Linux servers
• Monitor system performance, capacity and overall health proactively
• Investigate and resolve technical incidents and general service requests
• Manage OS patches, vulnerability remediation and security hardening to ensure compliance
• Provide ongoing database support, including backups and restores
• Troubleshoot networking, connectivity and infrastructure issues
• Manage file systems, user and group permissions and support application deployments
• Develop technical procedures and take part in after-hours or standby support

Required profile

• 3 to 5 years of relevant background in technical support, infrastructure support or Linux administration
• Hands-on experience with enterprise Linux environments, specifically RHEL and AlmaLinux
• Experience with Apache, Tomcat and Java-based enterprise applications
• Experience with virtualization platforms (Proxmox, VMware, Hyper-V) and container technologies (Docker, Podman)
• Proven experience managing backup solutions and implementing disaster recovery strategies
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, documentation and customer support abilities

Required skills

• Networking protocols and tools: DNS, TCP/IP, SSH, NFS and firewall management
• Bash scripting and Python for automation and infrastructure management
• Server monitoring, performance tuning and capacity planning
• Linux security hardening, patch management and vulnerability remediation
