Senior Software Engineer (Full-Stack)

About the role

Old Mutual is hiring a Senior Software Engineer in Johannesburg. The role covers designing, coding, developing, testing and implementing application components and systems, performing business and software analysis, coordinating projects and maintaining systems. It maps to several profiles such as CI/CD and platform engineers, API and web software engineers, and service now platform engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop existing and new applications, and maintain them by fixing complex defects
• Design digital products and services through concepts and prototypes
• Recommend technical improvements to websites, portals and applications
• Maintain a roadmap for application development aligned with business needs
• Diagnose faults and resolve issues quickly
• Create and maintain technical and user documentation
• Test applications and fix performance issues
• Keep up with organizational policies, regulations and security measures such as firewalls and encryption
• Analyze data, document current and future processes, support database design and tuning, and scan external trends

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 5+ years as a Full-Stack Software Engineer with a track record of complex projects
• NQF Level 7 qualification or equivalent
• Previous leadership or mentorship experience in a development team

Required skills

• Front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and frameworks such as React, Angular or Vue.js
• Strong programming in languages such as JavaScript, Python or Ruby, and web frameworks
• Databases: design, optimization and complex queries
• Cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and microservices architecture
