Technical Officer - Bus Depot Vehicle Maintenance

About the role

The City of Ekurhuleni is looking for a Technical Officer for its Bus Service Operations depots. The officer inspects and evaluates defects on buses and refers them for repair, handles the administration of technical matters and controls the staff of the technical sub-section.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect defects reported by bus drivers in the defect register and evaluate the nature and extent of each defect or damage
• Reneve vehicle licences annually and keep the fitness certificate registers up to date, notifying the workshop in advance of expiring certificates
• Handle claims for glass, all-risk and injury on duty
• Reconcile the weekly repair report from the mechanical workshop with workshop orders and confirm repairs were carried out
• Control the duties of Technical Assistants, General Assistants and Shedmen so that the bus service runs effectively and efficiently
• Keep records of all tyres fitted to depot vehicles and report them monthly to the Depot Manager
• Investigate accidents and recommend bus drivers for training
• Perform other related tasks at the same level of execution

Required profile

• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with a trade test in Diesel Mechanic
• Two years of Diesel Mechanic experience and relevant supervisory experience
