Technical Manager - Port Terminal Equipment

About the role

Transnet is recruiting a Technical Manager for its TPT Saldanha IOT operating division, within the Engineering department. The role reports to the Engineering Manager and covers the maintenance of all TPT equipment, plant and buildings (leased and owned) so that they meet operational efficiency and safety standards and comply with the relevant laws. It also involves designing, controlling and administering capital projects for the port.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain all TPT equipment, plant and buildings to exceed efficiency and safety standards and support world-class terminal operations.
• Support the development and implementation of the Asset Care Strategy and the planned maintenance programme.
• Manage CAPEX spend and support terminal initiatives to deliver best practice and excellent customer service.
• Deliver on the Terminal Health Check List and create a safe working environment in line with the Transnet code of practices.
• Implement performance management systems for plant and equipment and align department outputs to business needs.
• Perform standby duties as required.

Required profile

• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (essential); a BSc/BEng/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering is advantageous.
• 5 years of plant experience, including 2 years in first-line management as supervisor or technician; alternatively, 6 years of relevant experience with at least 2 years at managerial or specialist level.
• Experience in plant maintenance systems, budget planning and project execution.
• Decisive, structured, hands-on management approach with clear communication skills and ability to work in a matrix structure.

Required skills

• SAP planned maintenance system or similar.
• OHS Act, quality management systems, RCM and RCA techniques.
• Mechanical and electrical engineering experience.
