TBM Operator – Microtunnelling

About the role

Joseph Gallagher is seeking experienced Microtunnelling Operators to join projects across London and the wider UK. The role involves overseeing TBM drives, ensuring safety, quality, and alignment throughout the tunnelling process.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and manage TBM drives, adapting to changes on site.
• Assemble, maintain, and operate Herrenknecht and Iseki micro‑tunnel boring machines.
• Check plans, drawings, and site surveys; set out detailed works according to contract specifications.
• Conduct inspections of TBM equipment and monitor alignment, grade, and slurry/lubrication systems.
• Maintain accurate jacking operation records and contribute to daily operational reports.
• Provide engineering support to resolve technical issues and ensure compliance with client quality standards.

Required profile

• Solid experience on civil engineering and major tunnelling projects.
• Proven operation of Herrenknecht or Iseki micro‑tunnel boring systems in variable ground conditions.
• Strong mechanical knowledge of TBM assembly, maintenance, and disassembly.
• Good understanding of construction methods, health & safety regulations, and legal requirements in civil engineering.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork abilities.
