Tax Compliance Officer – Individuals

About the role

This position is based in Johannesburg within the Tax Department of a leading financial services firm. Reporting to the Tax Directors, you will manage the full lifecycle of individual tax compliance for an allocated client base.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit individual ITR12 and IRP6 tax returns.
• Review SARS assessments for accuracy and initiate disputes when necessary.
• Upload supporting documents to SARS and respond to SARS queries.
• Prepare and submit disputes or appeals, and monitor their progress.
• Generate client billings within monthly deadlines.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of tax legislation and amendments.
• Contribute tax‑related articles to the company website.
• Apply for tax clearance certificates and manage tax residency declarations.
• Support directors, managers, trainees and assist with tax research as required.

Required profile

• Grade 12/Matric certificate.
• Tax‑specific certificate or diploma.
• Minimum 5 years experience in individual tax compliance, including expatriate taxation.
• Experience with deceased estates taxation is advantageous.
• Registration as a Tax Practitioner is a plus.
• Proven knowledge of relevant tax legislation and regulations.
