Speech and Language Therapist – Adult Neuro Rehabilitation

About the role

The successful candidate will provide speech therapy services to the adult neuro‑rehabilitation population at Wits RehabMatters, located at 200 Rivonia Road, Morningside. The role can be undertaken on a part‑time (20‑25 hrs/week) or full‑time (40 hrs/week) basis within an inpatient setting.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients’ speech, language and swallowing function and develop personalised treatment plans.
• Deliver therapy using evidence‑based techniques to improve communication, dysphagia management and overall safety.
• Educate patients and families on self‑care strategies and use of assistive communication tools.
• Collaborate with physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure holistic care.
• Document progress, update treatment plans and maintain accurate clinical records.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech Therapy.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in adult rehabilitation, preferably neuro‑rehabilitation.
• Current HPCSA registration (mandatory) and South African citizenship or valid work visa.
• Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal abilities.
• Proficiency with basic IT platforms and clinical documentation systems.

Required skills

• Dysphagia assessment and management.
• Use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools.
• Operation of electronic fluency devices.
• Clinical documentation software.
• Basic IT proficiency for record‑keeping and reporting.
