Psychiatrist – Mental Health and Addiction Recovery

About the role

We are looking for a qualified and compassionate Psychiatrist with a strong interest in mental health and addiction medicine to deliver specialist psychiatric services in a residential rehabilitation setting.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnose and manage mental health conditions and substance use disorders.
• Prescribe, monitor and adjust psychiatric medication, including medication‑assisted treatment for addiction where appropriate.
• Collaborate with psychologists, therapists, addiction counsellors and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized, evidence‑based treatment plans.
• Assess and manage psychiatric risks such as suicidal ideation, self‑harm and withdrawal‑related complications.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with HPCSA standards and the Mental Health Care Act.

Required profile

• MBChB or equivalent medical degree and postgraduate specialist qualification in Psychiatry (MMed Psych or FC Psych SA).
• Current HPCSA registration as a Specialist Psychiatrist with valid professional indemnity cover.
• Extensive experience in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment of substance use disorders and dual‑diagnosis cases.
• Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and manage complex psychiatric presentations.
