Solutions Architect – Education Sector

About the role

A well-established South African software development company, which develops, supports and consults software solutions for the academic sector, is hiring a Solutions Architect. The company has offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and its employees are mostly permanent and long-term. The role is based in Bellville.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and document scalable, robust and secure software solutions for the education sector.
• Provide technical leadership, drive decisions, mentor team members and ensure adherence to best practices and standards across the product lifecycle.
• Work with product managers, educational specialists and clients to turn requirements into technical solutions and explain complex ideas to non-technical people.
• Help plan the technical roadmap, estimate effort, follow emerging trends and drive opportunities for innovation and technology adoption.
• Evaluate and improve existing systems for performance, scalability and maintainability, while meeting security, regulatory and privacy standards.
• Oversee implementation of architectural solutions, troubleshoot technical issues and address concerns about performance, reliability and usability.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary degree (e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering) is beneficial.
• 10+ years of experience in software architecture and product development.
• Proven experience designing end-to-end solutions and implementing complex projects.
• Ability to write technical software design documentation.
• Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail and communication skills.
• Ability to lead and inspire technical teams in a fast-paced, agile, collaborative environment.

Required skills

• High proficiency in Java, Angular or other back-end and front-end technologies.
• Expertise in microservices architecture, integration design and best practices.
• Deep knowledge of database design, specifically MySQL.
