Solutions Architect / Consultant – Hybrid (Cape Town)

About the role

Ultima is seeking a client‑facing Solutions Architect / Consultant to design and deliver modern cloud solutions for UK and US customers. Based in Cape Town with a hybrid work model, you will combine deep technical expertise with commercial impact to drive business value.

Key responsibilities

• Design scalable, secure, and cost‑effective cloud architectures, primarily on AWS.
• Act as technical owner for a portfolio of customer accounts, overseeing optimisation of cost, performance, security and reliability.
• Develop and review Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or similar tools.
• Integrate technologies such as Cloudflare (DNS, WAF, CDN, Zero Trust), load balancing and caching solutions.
• Lead cloud migrations, high‑availability, disaster‑recovery and security architecture initiatives.
• Produce technical documentation, diagrams, proposals and runbooks for operational readiness.
• Support pre‑sales activities, solution design and technical leadership for new business.

Required profile

• Strong experience designing enterprise‑grade cloud solutions, with a client‑facing, consultative approach.
• Commercial awareness and ability to translate technical insight into business value.
• Proven track record of driving cost optimisation (FinOps) and delivering measurable business outcomes.

Required skills

• AWS (certified, preferably AWS Solutions Architect – Professional)
• Working knowledge of Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform
• Cloudflare services (DNS, WAF, CDN, Zero Trust)
• Terraform or comparable Infrastructure as Code tools
