Software Engineer – Safety-Critical Embedded Systems

About the role

Our client, a leading South African defence and security company, is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to develop safety‑critical products using the RTCA DO-178C lifecycle. You will work on embedded and application‑level software for electronic warfare, sensor, and avionics systems.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse system‑level requirements and translate them into high‑level software requirements.
• Write test cases to verify high‑level software requirements.
• Write and review V‑Model (RTCA DO-178C) documentation.
• Develop embedded and application‑level software source code.
• Verify and validate software functionality.
• Participate in software integration, including defect investigation and resolution.
• Provide technical leadership for a small SCRUM‑based team.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Strong C/C++ development skills.
• Experience in safety‑critical software environments.
• Strong requirement analysis and technical writing abilities.
• Familiarity with embedded operating systems.
• BEng (Computer Engineering) or equivalent BSc qualification.
• Military or defence sector experience is advantageous.
• South African citizenship preferred; diverse backgrounds welcomed.
