Senior Research Nurse

About the role

The Clinical Mycobacteriology and Epidemiology (CLIME) Research Group at Stellenbosch University seeks a Senior Research Nurse to lead clinical execution of tuberculosis research protocols. The role involves participant recruitment, informed consent, specimen collection, and liaison between the community, clinical site, and laboratory.

Key responsibilities

• Lead patient recruitment and ensure activities follow study protocols and timelines.
• Manage the informed consent process in strict accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
• Collect and handle biological specimens (blood, sputum) safely, label, package, and transport them to the laboratory.
• Provide HIV testing and counselling where required, maintaining confidentiality.
• Assist with the rollout of new research projects at field sites.
• Maintain comprehensive patient records, case report forms, and conduct regular quality checks.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive experience in clinical research.
• Demonstrated ability to follow GCP and study operating procedures (SOPs).
• Strong knowledge of specimen collection and handling standards.
• Experience with HIV testing and counselling is preferred.
• Ability to work independently while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
