Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor: Family Medicine (Family Physician)

About the role

North-West University’s Faculty of Health Sciences is seeking a senior academic to lead family‑medicine clinical skills training for MBChB students. The role combines teaching, simulation‑based education, curriculum development and research within a permanent appointment.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate clinical skills training for undergraduate medical students using simulation equipment and authentic patients across the first three years of the MBChB programme.
• Design, develop and deliver simulation scenarios that enhance clinical reasoning, teamwork and patient safety.
• Conduct OSCE and OSPE assessments and other forms of clinical competence evaluation.
• Support and integrate clinical skills into the curriculum, coordinating activities on the Clinical Training Platform (households, primary health‑care facilities and hospital placements).
• Mentor students in professionalism, communication and patient‑centred care.
• Develop an active research programme in clinical medicine or scholarship of teaching‑learning, including supervision of postgraduate projects.
• Provide ad‑hoc clinical support to the Desmond Tutu School of Medicine.

Required profile

• MBChB (or equivalent) – NQF level 8.
• MMed or FCFP in Family Medicine – NQF level 9.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Family Physician.
• Demonstrated experience in clinical skills teaching, simulation‑based education and assessment.
• Track record of scholarly activity or research in medical education or clinical medicine.
